Conference speakers


Paul Gordon

Paul leads Atomos’s healthcare team, where he uses insights from his more than 20 years’ assisting medical professionals with financial planning. This includes the NHS Pension, Partial Retirement, 24-Hour Retirement, Ill-Health Retirement and personal planning including protection, mortgages, investments and Inheritance Tax planning. 

He works with medical specialist accountants and solicitors to ensure he and his team have up-to-the-minute knowledge of the issues faced by clients. His advice in this area is so highly regarded he is regularly invited to give talks to Trusts, practices and local medical committees, along with recording podcasts and webinars on the ongoing complexities of the NHS Pension.


James Gransby

James is an accounts and tax partner dealing exclusively with medical professionals and has worked in the sector for over 20 years. James is a regular contributor to industry press articles having written for Pulse, Practice Management, Medeconomics, Independent Practitioner Today, GP Online, Practice Business, amongst others. James is also a Board member of AISMA.


Andy is a Chartered Accountant who has worked with doctors for over 25 years. His portfolio roles cover training and support for a large GP community for Medics Money, a GP led company set up to help doctors take more control of their finances. He also has a GP accounting and tax portfolio at Mazars LLP. Andy is also an AISMA board member with responsibilities for liaising with key industry stakeholders.


Oliver has been acting for GPs practices since 2005 and has been involved in drawing up or amending well over 500 GP partnership deeds. He advises GP practices and helps with all aspects of the partnership relationship, from putting in place the GP partnership deed, to advising on its terms, to dealing with disputes between partners.

Oliver also routinely advises on GP mergers and the creation of super partnerships and other new structures for GP practices. He is part of a wider healthcare team at VWV which covers the whole range of services to primary care and includes experts on property matters, litigation, regulatory matters, and employment issues.


Deborah Wood

Deborah is a Healthcare Services Partner at MHA and leads the specialist healthcare services team based in Preston. She has specialised in looking after Healthcare Professional clients for over 30 years and is invited to speak at seminars across the country to doctors, their practice managers and fellow accountants on a wide variety of financial management topics affecting the sector. 

Deborah contributes articles and comments to the medical press on a regular basis. She is also Chair of The Association of Independent Specialist Medical Accountants (AISMA) and a former President of the North West Society of Chartered Accountants.


Adam is a highly regarded chartered surveyor with expertise in the primary health care property sector. He acts for numerous GP practices as well as property developers, investors, banks and pharmacy operators. Much of his time is spent on the development of new medical centres but he also undertakes valuations, rent reviews and investment transactions.

Adam is often brought in to help find solutions to resolve property issues and partnership disputes within GP practices, pharmacies, and dentists. He provides advice to GP practices, landlords, NHS organisations as well as property developers. With professional pragmatism, he advises on various lease issues and valuation challenges.

Adam formed Primary Care Surveyors in 2009, with the aim of providing a high-quality service in this niche market.


Jonathan joined MHA as a Partner in 2018. He qualified with the Chartered Institute of Taxation as a chartered tax adviser in 1994 and as an accredited mediator with the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution in 2016. He has nearly 40 years’ experience of VAT and indirect taxation, including 17 years as a Partner with both Arthur Andersen and PwC. During his time with PwC, Jonathan was Senior Partner for PwC’s Liverpool office. Jonathan has been co-opted to the board of The Association of Independent Specialist Medical Accountants (AISMA) as a specialist VAT adviser for the purpose of leading the provision of advice to AISMA members and external organisations such as the BMA, NHS England and HMRC.


Mike, who is a Chartered Certified Accountant and Head of Dental at UNW LLP, has over 10 years’ experience in working with dental professionals. Mike has overall responsibility for over 500 practice clients and is actively involved in advising clients in respect of accounts, practice purchases/sales and restructuring. 

Alongside his dental accounting experience, Mike has a wealth of experience in NHS contracts, net pensionable earnings, tax affairs, exit strategies and retirement planning. He is also a member of NASDAL (National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers) and regularly provides accounting and taxation updates to national specialist healthcare lenders. Mike is the editor of the quarterly NASDAL goodwill survey which analyses all member client practice sales, purchases, and valuations.
