Introduction to Bookkeeping and Accounts
This course provides a practical way for those new to accountancy to learn and understand the basics of their work and studies.
The participants will learn everything from the basic principles of accounts, through the nominal ledger and extended trial balance to simple financial statements, in small, friendly classes.
At the end of the course participants will be familiar with the basic principles of double entry bookkeeping, and will have prepared trial balances, profit and loss accounts and balance sheets via a case study.
This course will cover the areas of:
- Books of prime entry, ledgers and control accounts
- Adjustments - depreciation, bad debts, accruals, prepayments
- Extended trial balance
- Producing simple financial statements
- VAT - basic concepts, VAT return
- Case study - preparing accounts from underlying records
- Professional ethics
- Making the right start with colleagues and clients
This is a 7 day course including Introduction to VAT and Professional Skills: Making the Right Start with Colleagues and Clients.
The learning is consolidated in the second week with a case study - preparing accounts from underlying records. The full course includes two tests with personalised feedback and a half day introduction to the personal skills useful in the first few months of training.
